Your Journey Day by Day

10 Days / 9 Nights

Colombo → Chilaw → Kalpitiya → Ritigala → Sigiriya → Mahiyanganaya → Matale → Riverston → Colombo

Day 01

Arrival / Colombo

Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport and transfer to your boutique Colombo hotel. A curated welcome dinner featuring local and colonial-inspired cuisine sets the tone for a journey into Sri Lanka’s lesser-explored heritage.

Day 02

Colombo to Chilaw & Kalpitiya

Drive north to Chilaw for a guided visit to its historic temples and traditional fishing village. Continue to Kalpitiya on the northwest coast, arriving in time for a sunset lagoon cruise with storytelling about the region’s unique local traditions. Overnight at Kitesurfing Lanka Eco Lodge.

Day 03

Kalpitiya: Adventure & Nature

A morning of dolphin watching and mangrove kayaking through Kalpitiya’s extraordinary lagoon system, followed by an eco-guided walk across the sandbanks. An evening private cooking demonstration of regional seafood specialties creates a memorable and intimate close to the day.

Day 04

Kalpitiya to Sigiriya via Ritigala

Drive inland to the mysterious Ritigala Forest Monastery – one of Sri Lanka’s most atmospheric ancient sites, hidden deep within a protected forest reserve. A guided historical trek reveals ancient stone pathways, ruined meditation platforms, and an extraordinary sense of discovery. Continue to Sigiriya for overnight.

Day 05

Sigiriya & Dambulla Exploration

An early morning climb of Sigiriya Rock Fortress before the crowds arrive, followed by an afternoon at the sacred Dambulla Cave Temple. An optional village walk or local craft demonstration fills the afternoon, with sunset photography closing a visually extraordinary day.

Day 06

Sigiriya to Mahiyanganaya

Drive to Mahiyanganaya for an afternoon heritage tour of local temples, the Vedda Village (Sri Lanka’s indigenous community), and colonial-era structures. A relaxed evening of tea and cultural storytelling with village elders provides one of the journey’s most genuinely moving experiences.

Day 07

Mahiyanganaya to Habarana → Matale by Train

A scenic morning drive to Habarana, before boarding the train to Matale – a 3-3.5 hour journey through small villages, lush greenery, and highland foothills. Arrive in Matale for an afternoon exploration of the town and overnight at a boutique eco-lodge.

Day 08

Matale Heritage Exploration

Morning visit to Nalanda Gedige – one of Sri Lanka’s rarest ancient structures, uniquely blending Buddhist and Hindu architectural traditions. Afternoon heritage exploration around Matale, including fragrant spice gardens and optional colonial-era sites. Evening at leisure in Matale.

Day 09

Matale to Riverston

Drive to Riverston – one of Sri Lanka’s most spectacular and least-visited highland viewpoints, set high above the Knuckles Range. An afternoon guided nature walk through misty hills, hidden waterfalls, and open grasslands leads to sunset photography over some of the island’s most dramatic landscapes.

Day 10

Riverston to Colombo / Departure

A scenic morning drive back toward Colombo, with an optional stop at Sembuwatta Lake – a serene highland reservoir – before transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport for departure.
