Sri Lanka’s southern coastline is home to several important sea turtle nesting sites, and a number of community-run conservation projects allow travellers to participate directly in the protection and release of endangered sea turtles. Visiting hatcheries at Kosgoda or Rekawa Beach, witnessing a nighttime nesting, or helping guide hatchlings to the ocean is one of the most moving and meaningful travel experiences the island offers.
